Congratulations! You've completed your 8-week rehab. Once your submission has been reviewed by our team, and your pet is cleared, you may let your pet resume normal activity.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Weight shifting. This is normal. Your pet has not yet built the muscle back in the recently repaired leg. Typically, at this point the muscle mass in the operated leg is approximately 30-40% smaller than the non-operated limb. Not to worry, your pet will eventually build muscle back with proper exercise and activities.
Some pets may experience lameness after the recovery period has been completed. The implants/bone are stable, and it is most likely either a soft tissue injury or a post-operative meniscal injury. In these cases, we ask you to call for a refill of your pain/anti-inflammatory medication(s) and keep your pet under reasonable rest for 2-3 weeks. Most mild to moderately post-op meniscal injuries (approx. 95%) will resolve with conservative management. If the lameness does not improve, please call the office.
DID YOU KNOW In most cases, the implant will remain in your pet's leg for the rest of their life. In less than 2% of cases, it may need to be removed. If there is any swelling present or a sore develops near the old incision, please call our office as this may be a sign of concern. There is a 40% chance your pet could rupture the cranial cruciate ligament on the opposite leg and may require surgical repair.
Once your form has been submitted and reviewed you should hear a response back via email within 1-2 business days. If You have any questions, please give the office a call at 419-841-4745.
