Pet Rhinoscopy

Rhinoscopy is a minimally invasive technique used to examine the nasal cavity of a pet with a fiber-optic viewing scope known as an endoscope. While it does require general anesthesia, there are no incisions made, as we use your pet’s natural nasal cavity as the entry point. At West Suburban Animal Hospital our veterinarians are very skilled at endoscopic procedures including rhinoscopy, laparoscopy, colonoscopy, and more.

DIFFERENT USES OF RHINOSCOPY

In addition to allowing visual examination of the nasal cavity, rhinoscopy can be used to:

  • Identify the cause of symptoms such as sneezing, nasal discharge, and nose bleeds
  • Obtain tissue samples (biopsy) for cytologic and histologic evaluation. Samples are evaluated for inflammation, infection, fibrosis, and cancer
  • Treat nasal, sinus, or nasopharyngeal problems, such as removal of a foreign body or nasal polyps
